Often when people imagine copper they think of water pipes and kettles. Frequently they are surprised by the extraordinary colours found in the highly oxidised metal used in Siāns work. Contrast those colours with polished appliqué, and you have something very special indeed.
In the 1990s Siān was apprenticed to well-known coppersmith Sam Fanaroff in Pevensey. In 2004, after a decade away to raise her family of four she was awarded a QEST scholarship that enabled her to complete an MA by Project (Metal) at London Metropolitan University. In 2007 she returned with an exciting new business, based in historic Hastings, called Coppersmithing by Siān and in 2008 received a Grants for the Arts Award to buy specialist tools. Siān now looks forward to sharing her work with old and new friends alike.
Siān's work is currently appearing at the Rye Art Gallery Summer Show - "Light Dances On" 27th June - 6th September 2009 Beautiful Copperwork Available to Buy Online Now: Join Siān's mailing list by clicking here
